
Public sector
Many of the jobs available in Värmland are in the public sector. Besides local and regional authorities, a number of government agencies and authorities are established here. The public sector and private industry work together in many fields. New business concepts are born and new companies are able to start up.
Värmland's municipalities
In Värmland, there are 16 municipalities that are tasked by the public sector to provide service in many different areas for their citizens. They're responsible for issues such as primary and secondary schools and upper secondary schools, care for children and the elderly, social issues, libraries, streets, parks, sanitation, water and drainage. Thus the work that takes place in the municipalities is of major importance to citizens' everyday lives, security and the labour market in the areas and region.
Värmland County Administrative Board
The county administrative board is the link between the Riksdag (Swedish parliament) and the government and Värmland. The county administrative board deals with issues spanning the entire society. Its operations include disaster management and rescue services, animal protection and veterinary issues, fishing, equality, cultural environment, agriculture, food control, nature conservation and environmental protection, international relations, integration, sustainable social planning and social issues.
Region Värmland
Region Värmland is an organisation formed by the 16 municipalities and the county council of the county have formed in order to gather work on regional development, growth issues, culture and popular education in Värmland under one umbrella. Region Värmland is also responsible for five folk high schools and a number of regional resource centres, including Dans i Värmland, Film i Värmland, Energikontor Värmland and Värmlandsarkiv.
Värmland County Council
Värmland County Council works with healthcare, nursing and dental care. The county council has around 30 health centres and hospitals in Karlstad, Arvika and Torsby. The dental care services have 40 clinics across the county. There's also a county council archive.
