Tourism
The tourism industry forms a significant part of Värmland's trade and industry. Tourism in Värmland, including the shopping done by our visitors, is estimated to be worth a turnover of SEK 5 billion every year. Our visitors book accommodation and spend money on going out, take part in activities, visits festivals and go to the theatre, go skiing and enjoy the good live at restaurants and spa hotels. Värmland is a popular place for people to meet. Conference guests like our manor houses, conference centres and congress centres.
There are around 2 000 companies who give our guests service and experiences. Around 3 000 full-time jobs are created in this industry, but given the fact that many jobs are seasonal and part-time, many more people are actually employed in our hospitality industry.
Shopping is becoming an ever more important reason for people to travel. The pleasant town centres in a number of small towns in Värmland, galleries and business districts in central Karlstad, Bergvik shopping centre and ever more extensive border trading mean that more and more people are visiting Värmland every year.
Värmland is a place to visit no matter what the time of year.
Region Värmland has a resource centre which stands responsible for marketing, development projects, training and coordination of the tourist trade in Värmland.
Visit Värmland
Visit Värmland is a newly formed cooperative association and the result of several years of broad, intensive work collating hospitality in the county around a joint strategy. Now the foundations are in place to start building an active cluster organisation in which the interests of companies are taken into account.
This strategy indicates cooperation in a number of important areas. For growth. For development. For skills supply. And for an ever more attractive Värmland.
The Visit Värmland business concept:
- To collect and create a network of all players – private companies, the municipalities and Region Värmland, Karlstad University and other schools.
- Marketing to strengthen member companies, what they have to offer and the Värmland brand.
- To work to ensure that there are staff with the right training, commitment and skills which companies can employ – and to ensure that they stay in Värmland.
- To work to allow companies to develop their business and concepts, to help ensure that more people are able to start and run companies, and to attract national and international companies – in other words, to promote the development of the entire hospitality industry in Värmland.
- To ensure that new research and knowledge benefit member companies and can be applied in practice.
- To produce valuable decision data for member companies on the basis of statistics, environment analyses, market and customer surveys and competitive situations.
