Your company will need injections of capital when it starts up and also when you make major investments.

Finance forms and terms differ, but normally they can be divided into venture capital and contributions.

Owner capital and equity

The most common way of covering your company's need for money is to provide your own funds. This might be the profit generated as part of your business, or private funds which you inject into the company. 

In limited companies, this is known as equity. There are no formal capital requirements for sole traders or partnerships.

External finance

If your company grows or you need new finance, it's common to accept external capital from financiers.

Banks and venture capital

For many companies, bank loans are the most important form of external finance. Other common forms may, for example, include leasing, renting or paying by instalments.

 Venture capital companies and angel investors can also be a source of finance for companies. This option is open mainly to companies with high growth potential and good opportunities to make profits.

There are also investment companies which feel that Värmland is an interesting market and so they're focusing on investing capital here.

EU/public finance

Public financiers such as the EU and various authorities may offer part-finance for projects under special circumstances. This may be because they want to achieve a specific result or supplement the market in areas where the market is failing to operate in a satisfactory manner.

ALMI Företagspartner

ALMI supplements the market by offering venture finance when no-one else will do so. As a market-supplementing financier, ALMI's job is to take a little more risk. The strength of the concept and the company's future potential are of greater significance than the actual assets. The abilities of the entrepreneur and the company to develop and make the most of the concept or investment are also important.

Swedish Public Employment Service

The Swedish Public Employment Service can provide financial support to people starting their own companies in some instances.

Värmland County Administrative Board

You can apply for financial support from the County Administrative Board in the form of corporate funding, project funding and funded rural community funding. However, this funding is granted mainly for rural development.

Eventure Karlstad

Eventure Karlstad is a recurring meeting place where well prepared entrepreneurs from Sweden and Norway can meet angel investors and other investors. The participating companies are selected by an external jury, which independently reviews the quality of the business concepts and their potential for growth.
