Getting started

Every step of the process is important, from concept to company. Laying the foundations well will pay off in the long run.

Business concept

A business concept resolves a problem or meets a need on the market.

Your business concept may involve:

  • selling an established service or product in a new way
  • focusing on a completely new customer group
  • selling a completely new service or product

A good business concept answers the questions:

  • Who is the customer?
  • What can the company offer the customer?
  • What unique feature does the customer derive from what I have to offer?

Business plan

Document your business concept, analyse your target groups, look at what your market looks like, who your competitors are and how you plan to make yourself stand out from them. Set yourself targets and lay down strategies in order to achieve them. What resources to you have to hand? Do you need to reinforce your resources? Plan your marketing.

Start-up capital and budget

Compile a realistic budget which documents everything, from investments you need to make, expenses in connection with starting up your company and running costs. Try to assess what income you'll receive.

Choose what type of company to have

When you start a company, you have to decide what type to have. There are different types of company, and they work in different ways: sole trader, trading partnership, limited partnership, limited company, cooperative society. The type of company you choose depends on what you plan to do and your own criteria, whether you're going to start the company on your own or together with others.

Register your company

No matter what type of company you choose, you have to register your company with the Swedish Companies Registration Office.
