Regulated professions

Some professions are regulated in that Swedish law defines what is required to be able to work in the profession, such as a specific degree or authorisation, identification or some other formal recognition.

To be able to work in a profession of this kind, you have to apply for recognition from the specific authority for the profession. If you're a citizen of the EU/EEA, special rules apply in accordance with Directive 2005/36/EC. There are also other directives which regulate professions.

There is a long list of professions covered by these rules: pharmacists, electrical installers, opticians and psychologists are just some of them.

Professions with specific industry requirements

In some professions, there are requirements which apply to their own specific industry.

The Public Employment Service has a list of professions where you can find information on the training and requirements required. The Valideringsinfo website provides assistance with finding the right trade organisation.
