Family advisory service

There are many different reasons as to why you might seek the help of a family advisory service. For example:

  • when you're finding it hard to talk to one another and want to get out of your stalemate position
  • when you want to understand one another better
  • when your relationship is being affected by abuse or family violence, for example
  • when one partner or both partners wish to separate
  • when you can't agree about your children
  • when adults need to sort out relationships with close relatives
  • when you need information on practical matters in your personal relationship.

In Värmland, family advisory services are offered via the municipalities, the Church of Sweden in Karlstad and private players. A number of municipalities work together to be able to offer support.

This is approximately how it works: During the first visit, both parties are given the opportunity to describe individually why they're looking for advice. On the basis of this, the two parties agree on any ongoing discussions. The intention is for these discussions to permit and assist a change in the required direction. There's a huge variation in the number of discussions that are held.
