Childcare for school age children
Childcare for school age children is a generic term for three organisations which are aimed at children up to and including the age of 12 who are at school (preschool class or compulsory schooling). Childcare for school age children, together with preschool activities, has a two-part task. On the one hand, it should help to provide good conditions for growing up by supporting and stimulating the development and learning of children, and on the other it should make it possible for parents to combine parenthood with gainful employment or studies.
- The municipalities are obliged to offer recreation centres or educational care to school age children up to and including the age of 12 if their parents are studying or in gainful employment. The municipality must make all reasonable attempts to take into account the form of care the parents would like for their children.
- For children aged 10 to 12, childcare for school age children can also be provided in the form of open leisure activities.
