Education
Värmland offers a rich variety of education and good access to higher education and research at Karlstad University, as well as courses at our two smaller colleges, Bergskolan and Gammelkroppa. Remote courses are offered in a number of fields where people can opt to study from home or at any of the local study centres in the region.
We have cutting edge skills in a number of growth areas such as service research, paper coating, material science, data security, data communication and software development. Our university in Karlstad offers options for completing doctorates in 23 different subject fields.
Värmland has positioned itself in Sweden as regards vocational colleges, and there are lots of different courses to choose from. The excellent cooperation between education and the world of work means that new courses start every year which are based on the needs of trade and industry.
Besides the 18 national programmes, upper secondary education also offers cutting edge education in the field of natural sciences, as well as an International Baccalaureate (IB).
Most education organisers in the region have opted to focus on a college concept produced by trade and industry in order to further assure the quality of upper secondary and post upper secondary courses in the fields of technology, care and nursing and services. Employers have a very important part to play in the college concepts. They play an active part in both the structuring and the implementation of ongoing operations by providing on-the-job training, among other things.
Broby Grafiska has grown enormously over the past few years. This college, which previously offered upper secondary level courses only, has now been developed into a College of Cross Media.
