Vocational college
Vocational college is a post upper secondary education level which must be flexible and meet the needs of the labour market. There are two forms of education at vocational college: vocational college education and qualified vocational education.
Qualified vocational courses are the forerunners of vocational courses. Qualified vocational education began in 1996, while the first vocational courses started in 2010 when the new vocational college had been established. Qualified vocational courses are in the process of being phased out, and after that all courses at vocational college will be vocational courses; but both forms of education will be available over a transition period (until 2013 at the latest).
Qualified vocational courses and vocational courses are equivalent and maintain the same quality. But that said, they are controlled by different laws and regulations, and so they differ as regards the credits system and degree designations, for example. Both forms of education combine theory with learning linked with the workplace. In Värmland, there are two qualified vocational courses and 23 vocational courses.
