Equal opportunities

Equality is all about making sure that men and women have the same opportunities, rights and obligations in all areas of life. This is regulated by the Discrimination Act.

The government also has an equal opportunities policy. They're of the opinion that if society is equal, it'll be fairer and more democratic. Equal opportunities involves development of society as all the resources and experience of people are utilised. This is why society should work to achieve equal opportunities.

The government has set up for objectives for equal opportunities. These objectives are:

  • Men and women should have the same entitlement and opportunity to participate in society and have an influence in politics.
  • Men and women should have the same opportunities for training and work.
  • Men and women should accept equal amounts of responsibility for looking after their homes and children.
  • The violence of men against women must cease.
