Rescue services
Every municipality is responsible for all rescue services within the boundaries of their own municipality. Some Värmland municipalities operate these services within their own organisation, while others have merged and work together within a municipal federation to provide rescue services.
In the Swedish Accident Prevention Act, rescue services are defined as "the rescue services for which the state or the municipalities shall stand responsible in the event of accidents and immediate risk of accidents in order to prevent and limit injuries to people and damage to property or the environment".
The rescue services are perhaps most renowned for turning out in the event of fires, road accidents or other accidents, but they also do a lot of work on accident prevention, with training on these issues and providing information to citizens and companies. The rescue services also bear major responsibility for overall crisis management in society and play an important part in this.
