Central Karlstad 21 storeys taller
The new Bryggudden residential area will be growing up at the tip of the promontory between Inre hamn and Pråmkanalen. The jewel in the crown in this area will be a 21-storey high-rise building containing some 60 apartments.

"We wanted the close proximity to the water to be obvious, as well as creating a new landmark in Karlstad," explains Sture Emanuelsson, head of the project.
The building was designed by Wingårdh Arkitektkontor. It was clear from the outset that no attempts should be made to renew too many things in the area, instead preserving the existing rustic features. The result: a dark, brick façade intermixed with modern glass features.
"Finding a harmony between old and new was one of the challenges we faced with this project," says Sture Emanuelsson.
The idea is to permeate Bryggudden with the industrial origins of the area, its contact with the water and its central location. It'll only take a couple of minutes to get to the town square from Bryggudden. And when the entire area is complete, it'll include 500-600 new apartments and additional shops and offices as well.
Construction began in April, and it's hoped that the first residents will be able to move in by the end of 2012.
