Getting around Värmland is quick and easy, no matter what direction you're coming from.

Travelling to Värmland

By train: SJ operates a return service between Värmland and Stockholm, nine trains a day on weekdays, and five or six trains to Gothenburg and Oslo (not so many on weekends). There are also railway stations in Kristinehamn, Kil, Grums, Säffle, Arvika, Sunne and Torsby which are operated by SJ and/or Värmlandstrafik.

By coach: A number of coach companies operate express coach services to and from Värmland.

By air: Karlstad Airport is situated around 15 km from the centre of Karlstad. Daily scheduled flights depart to Stockholm and Copenhagen every day. RyanAir flies to and from Barcelona two days a week. A number of charter flights depart from Karlstad in both summer and winter.

Travelling around Värmland

Important routes for anyone travelling by car in Värmland are the E18, which links together the eastern, central and western parts, the E45 heading north along the west bank of Lake Vänern and on up through Fryksdalen and west into Dalarna, as well as national routes 61, 62 and 63 from Karlstad towards Arvika and Norway, through Klarälvdalen and Filipstad.

Värmlandstrafik is responsible for regional bus and rail traffic. Times and routes have been developed to suit both commuters and visitors.

Travelling in Karlstad

The orange town buses in Karlstad are operated by Karlstadbuss. If you come here in summer, you'll also find out unique "boat buses" which will take you round the town on the Klarälven river or out to Lake Vänern to a number of lovely places in the archipelago.

In summer, you can also hire a Solacykel bike if you're visiting Karlstad. The depot is situated on Stora torget.
